Exciting New LASIK Technology Now Offered at Our Dixon Location!

The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic is proud to announce that Dr. Marc A. Booth, M.D., the newest member of our Ophthalmology team, will be offering LASIK and other forms of refractive eye surgery in his office at 1321 North Galena Ave., Dixon, Illinois. Dr. Booth is Fellowship trained in LASIK and other forms of refractive surgery including PRK and astigmatism correction.

The new VISX Excimer Laser with its WaveScan technology, called CustomVue Laser Vision Correction, captures the unique imperfections in your vision that could not have been measured and corrected before. WaveScan technology produces a detailed map of your eye — much like a fingerprint, no two are alike. The CustomVue procedure enables Dr. Booth to measure imperfections in your vision and tailor a correction based on the unique characteristics of your eyes. This new level of measurement provides 25 times more precision than standard measurements used for glasses and contact lenses.

The VISX Excimer Laser with its state-of-the-art technology is Northern Illinois’ most advanced refractive eye surgery unit.

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about this remarkable procedure, you are encouraged to call (815) 284-1600.

SRFC Lab receives COLA award of Excellence

I am proud to announce the Clinic’s Laboratory staff has been awarded a coveted Laboratory Excellence Award by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation (COLA), a nation-wide accrediting entity for laboratories. COLA completes over 2,000 surveys of laboratories per year, and in Illinois, the Clinic’s laboratory is one of only 9 laboratories given this recognition in 2005. To be considered for this award, a laboratory must have zero deficiencies noted across a wide range of reviewed items. As stated by COLA, “The award was created to allow clinical laboratories that follow exceptional patient testing practices to be recognized by their patients and other members of the clinical laboratory community.” I’m proud to be able to offer the services of such a terrific department to ourcommunities. The next time your care involves the use of our laboratory, be assured you are in the care of a laboratory recognized as “one of the best.” — Randy Davis, Administrator

Local Physician Receives Special Certification Thomas P. McGlone, M.D., F.A.C.S., a general surgeon with the Sterling Rock Falls Clinic and CGH Medical Center, recently received word that he has been awarded National certification in Breast Ultrasound. He is one of only 50 surgeons to date who have completed the certification process. Dr. McGlone states, "I was very pleased to receive the certificate from ASBS [the American Society of Breast Surgeons] along with notification that I meet all the requirements for certification in Breast Ultrasound." When asked about the certification process, Dr. McGlone explains, "It involves several steps, the first of which is a written examination on ultrasound physics, ultrasound principles, diagnostic and interventional ultrasound, and interpretation of normal and pathologic findings using ultrasound. Next, a complete review is performed of my training, equipment, education, board certification and credentialing. Finally, I am required to submit highly detailed reviews of actual ultrasound studies and procedures that have been stripped of all patient identifying data. I must accurately interpret and assess all data and submit my findings and recommendations to the board. It has been a year long process. Dr. McGlone, adds, "The diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer and benign diseases has changed radically in the last 5 years. The addition of ultrasound guided biopsy to our capabilities for mammographically guided biopsy has nearly eliminated the need for invasive surgery in the diagnosis of breast abnormalities. Minimally invasive techniques in breast surgery have replaced the older surgical breast biopsy techniques. The breast cancer team can now offer the latest in breast surgery techniques including: Mammotome minimally invasive biopsy, Breast conservation surgery for cancer, sentinel lymph node biopsy for early cancer, IMRT radiation therapy and Mammosite 1 week radiotherapy." Eric B. Whitacre, M.D., Chairman of the Breast Ultrasound Certification Committee, states that, "this certificate represents an ability to contribute to high standards of practice and improved patient care. It certifies that Thomas P. McGlone, M.D. has successfully met and demonstrated the criteria and requirements established by the Society for Breast Ultrasound." Dr. McGlone's office is in the Sterling Rock Falls Clinic at 101 E. Miller Road, Sterling. In addition, he maintains an office one day a week in Freeport at 653 W. Stephenson Street. Dr. McGlone may be reached in Sterling at (815) 625-4790.
