07/05/10 - The Morrison Clinic Begins Construction on Expansion Project

Construction has begun on The Morrison Clinic expansion project which will triple the size of the facility from 4,000 square feet to 12,000. Site work for the project began last fall. The renovation and expansion are expected to be complete by the end of this year.

Once the renovation is complete, William Bird, MD; John Luckey, MD; and Cindy Wadsworth, CNP will continue to offer primary care services at the clinic. In addition, the expansion will allow Edward Hanlon, OD and The Morrison Clinic Vision Center to move into the building from their current 626 E. Lincolnway office. In the future, the additional space will also provide access to more specialists. __________________________________________________________________

07/05/10 - Time to Schedule School and Sports Physicals

It may seem like school just got out for the summer, but NOW is the time to schedule school physicals and annual sports physicals for the 2010-2011 school year.

School-aged children are required to have a physical for those entering Kindergarten, 6th Grade, and 9th Grade.

07/05/10 - Plan Ahead for Back-to-School Eye Exams

With summer in full force, planning for mandatory back-to-school eye exams may seem premature - but NOW is definitely the time to schedule your child's eye exam appointment.

According to the Illinois Optometric Association, Illinois state law requires comprehensive eye exams for children entering kindergarten or enrolling for the first time in public, private, or parochial elementary schools in Illinois.

05/04/10 - SRFC Welcomes Terry L. Donat, MD, FACS, FICS to the Otolaryngology (ENT) Department

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Terry L. Donat has joined the Otolaryngology (ENT) department at the Sterling Rock Falls Clinic. Dr. Donat practices Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, as well as Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and is now accepting new patients. He has been recognized in the past three years as one of "America's Top Plastic Surgeons" by the independent Consumer's Research Council.

Dr. Donat received his MD from the Hahnemann University School of Medicine in University Park, Pennsylvania and his BS from Pennsylvania State University in University Park. He completed his surgical internship in the Department of General Surgery and his residency in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan.

While on the medical faculties of both Wayne State University and the University of Michigan, Dr. Donat served as a National Institute of Health (NIH) Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Clinical Fellow for two years. In addition, he completed a second Postdoctoral Fellowship in advanced Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Dr. Donat is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a Diplomate of both the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

02/03/10 - The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic and CGH Medical Center Introduce Muna Kilani, MD, Pediatric Pulmonology

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Muna Kilani has joined The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic and CGH Medical Center as the only Pediatric Pulmonologist in the immediate area. There are a very limited number of Pediatric Pulmonologists practicing throughout the State of Illinois, so we are excited to have her joining our community to provide care in this special area of medicine.

Dr. Kilani received her MD from the University of Jordan in Medicine and Surgery. She completed her pediatric residency at the Metro Health Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship at Indiana University/Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she also practiced for the last five years before moving to Sterling.

Board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Pulmonology, Dr. Kilani is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics and American Thoracic Society.

01/21/10 - Dr. William Bird Celebrates National Membership

Dr. William Bird has completed continuing medical education requirements to retain membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the only medical specialty organization devoted solely to primary care.

To be members of the AAFP, family physicians must complete 150 hours of continuing medical education every three years to learn the most up-to-date treatments, technologies and medical research.

Family physicians complete an extensive three-year residency program after graduating from medical school. As part of their residency, family physicians receive training in six major medical areas: pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, psychiatry and neurology, surgery and community medicine. As a result, family physicians are the only medical specialists qualified to provide comprehensive health care for people of all ages, both sexes, each organ system and every disease entity.

Since 1997 Dr. Bird has been practicing medicine in Morrison and the surrounding communities. Dr. Bird received his MD and BA from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale, and completed his residency at Memorial Hospital of South Bend in South Bend, Indiana. Board certified by the American Academy of Family Practitioners, Dr. Bird is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, and the American College of Physician Executives. Dr. Bird sees patients in his office at The Morrison Clinic at 105 South Heaton Street. In addition, Dr. Bird serves as the Medical Director for The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic.

To maintain membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Bird is required to complete a minimum of 150 hours of accredited continuing medical education every three years. The AAFP was the first national medical specialty organization to set continuing education requirements for its members. This requirement helps ensure family physician members remain educated on the most up-to-date medical technologies, research and techniques. ___________________________________________________________________

Effective January 1, The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic Business Office will need to scan a new copy of your current insurance card on your first visit of the calendar year.

01/04/10 - Fifth Annual Biggest Heart on the Block Blood Drive Challenge

The Biggest Heart on the Block blood drive will be held on Saturday, February 6 from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at CGH Medical Center's Ryberg Auditorium. This annual event features a blood drive challenge between SRFC and CGH employees.

11/04/09 - SRFC New 3rd Floor Expansion Completed

Construction has been completed on a portion of the new 3rd floor at our Sterling location. The following departments relocated to the new 3rd floor on October 19: Urology, Dr. Dean Fondahn; Surgery, Dr. Thomas McGlone and Dr. Mark Schmelzel; Podiatry, Dr. Lynn Heffelfinger; and Sleep Medicine/Critical Care/Pulmonology, Dr. JC Michel. ___________________________________________________________________

11/04/09 - SRFC Employees Make Donation to SHS GIFTS Activity Group

The Employees of The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic recently made a $500 donation to Sterling High School's GIFTS - Group Investment for the Students. The money was raised at the clinic's annual Fall Party. Shane Brown, Assistant Administrator at The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic, presented a check on behalf of the clinic's employees to Laura Levesque and Martha Sorto of the GIFTS Activity Club at Sterling High School.

GIFTS is an activity club at Sterling High School. The mission of the club is to empower students through life-affirming, life-promoting activities, to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. In addition, GIFTS works to create an awareness of suicide by offering community forums such as suicideTalk and safeTalk; to participate in local, state, and national events that promote this awareness; to promote suicide awareness dates; and to help train more people on suicide CPR so that they are more ready, willing, and able to come to the aid of someone at-risk of suicide.

11/04/09 - Dr. John Luckey Receives Board Certification in Family Medicine

The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic is pleased to announce that Dr. John Luckey recently received board certification from the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Luckey received his MD from Loyola University's Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois and his BS from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Luckey completed his residency in Family Medicine at the UIC/Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. In addition, Dr. Luckey is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. He is a member of the Illinois Academy of Family Practitioners and the American Academy of Family Practitioners.

Dr. Luckey sees patients in his office at The Morrison Clinic at 105 South Heaton Street in Morrison. In addition, Dr. Luckey also sees hospital patients at CGH in Sterling.

10/08/09 - H1N1 Question & Answer Sessions for Parents

Dr. Zaioor, Sterling Rock Falls Clinic Infectious Disease Physician, will be presenting three question and answer sessions on H1N1 for parents in the Sterling and Rock Falls area. Sterling parents are invited to the Sterling High School library on Tuesday, October 13th at 6:30 pm. Rock Falls parents are invited to the Rock Falls High School cafeteria on Thursday, October 15th at 6:45pm. Catholic parents are invited to the Newman High School gymnasium on Thursday, October 15th at 7:30 pm.

The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic, CGH Medical Center, Whiteside County Health Department, and Dr. Zaioor believe that it is important that all our children are protected and strongly urge parents with concerns or questions about the vaccine to attend one of these presentations.

08/27/09 - Doing the Diabetes Dance with Healthy Feet
Mark your calendar for Monday, September 28, and learn tips for keeping your feet healthy from Eric Riley, DPM, a podiatrist at The Sterling Rock Falls Clinic.
